F: dischord. 33 / 10 tracks / 1989

I still don't know why Dischord shelved some of their best recordings for years in the late 80s, but this is another example. Recorded around 1985 or 1986, released in 1989 (well, still better than the One Last Wish demo which took them 13 years). 3 was a project feat. Jeff Nelson of Minor Threat and Mark Haggerty, Steve Niles and Jeff Turner of Gray Matter. The Gray Matter influences are obvious, but 3 are more melodic, and songs like Swann St are just incredibly catchy. Great, “friendly” pop core, somewhere in between Revolution Summer-style DC hardcore and “The Crew”-era 7 Seconds. Definitely one of Dischord’s finest releases. A must have. [9]  

Der Dischord-Tradition folgend, erscheint das Demotape einer der besten DC-Bands erst lange nach dem Split auf LP; aber das Warten hat sich sicher gelohnt. Da fast die komplette Band von Gray Matter kommt, ist der Sound natürlich eng mit dem dieser Band verwandt, aber noch um ein gutes Stück eingängiger; Songs wie Swann St sind einfach unglaubliche Ohrwürmer. Die ganze LP ist sehr ’freundlich’, der Sänger erinnert hier etwas an Kevin Se­conds zu HC-Tagen und die Musik ist sehr melodisch und ab­wechslungsreich. Ein sehr poppiger Hardcore-Sound, ohne aber in die Abgründe des seichten 3-Akkord-’Melody-Punks’ zu geraten. Auch die Texte sind sehr ernsthaft und lesenswert. Für DC-Fans Pflicht.
