“Amoeba” (as issued on the first Rodney on the ROQ compilation) apparently was such a big radio hit that Posh Boy manufactured around 15 “gold records” and handed them to the band. These were NOT actual test pressings of the song but gold-plated junk records with Posh Boy labels; here's the story as told by Robbie Fields: “Amoeba by the Adolescents was never mastered as a single in the old days; it was assigned a catalog number for the 100 or so labels printed up by Max Messer-schmidt for the 15 or so gold singles awarded to group members and friends of the label in early 1981. The gold plated records were probably some Mexican throw-aways”. The single was not properly released until ten years later when Robbie Fields issued it in his 7” series; it has the Amoeba version from the Rodney on the ROQ compilation, not the album version. Either way, you just get a version you'll most likely own already on vinyl, so it really is just for fans and collectors. [6]
