The band wanted to try something different with this LP, but it bombed so horribly that to this day they don’t want to rerelease it. The shitstorm they went through following the release must have been so traumatic that they just went “Back to the Known” on their next record. This is basically catchy rock music with some folk and psychedelic influences, but if you listen closely it’s just the trademark Bad Religion sound in a new packaging, because everything is there: Great tunes, intelligent lyrics and Greg’s voice. They could have easily recorded this in a punk style and it would have been regarded another classic; you have to admire them to do something completely unfashionable, just to try something new. Mit dieser 2. LP wollte die Band mal was ganz anderes ausprobieren - und landete einen der größten Flops der Punk-Geschichte, von 10000 gepreßten Copies wurden bis zum grandiosen Suffer-Comeback gerade mal 700 Stück verkauft. Statt des gewohnten 1-2-3-4-Losgeh-Hardcores bieten BR hier eingängige Rockmusik, die so durchaus auch im Radio laufen könnte, garniert mit ein paar Häppchen Folk und Psychedelic. Es ist ein deutliches Zeichen für die leider so oft herrschende Ignoranz in der Scene, daß die Platte deswegen in sämtlichen Fanzines gnadenlos abserviert wurde, wenn man nämlich näher hinsieht, erkennt man nämlich alle typischen BR-’Markenzeichen’, tolle Melodien, intelligente Texte, und natürlich Gregs schöne Stimme; das Ganze ist eben etwas anders verpackt, darum aber nicht schlechter. Mit etwas mehr Gitarre und durchgehendem Beat wäre die Platte mit Sicherheit ein Klassiker geworden. Mir gefällt sie aber auch so sehr gut…
