Cave In - epicenter CD5

  • J: rca/bmg. bvcp 28008 / 5 tracks / 2002
  • 7” pressings: #1 - 100 on clear dark blue, 400 on clear, 1300 on black. #2 - 100 on white, 225 on opaque orange, 323 on clear light blue. US CD has the same two tracks. Japanese CD in Digipak has 3 bonus tracks; “Brain Candle” is the Jupiter version, the other two are exclusive demo versions of tracks from “Antenna” (“Bigger Riff” was renamed “Rubber and Glue” for the album). Lyrics printed inside the digipak, + obi strip, mini poster with Japanese liner notes and translated lyrics, and a press/promo photo that doubles as a sticker.
  • I don’t know what it is, but I never could get enthusiastic about any of Cave In’s post-“Jupiter” material. It’s solid space rock stuff, but the edge is missing. On Jupiter, I had the feeling that the singer could turn into the screaming monster of the first two CDs ANY SECOND which created a huge tension. But this music is just - OK. Uninspiring. [7] The Japanese CD5 is the (much) better choice here because it adds two great bonus tracks (plus one from Jupiter); these are demo versions recorded in November 2001 that sound more like the songs on Jupiter. [8]
  • Tracks: (Jap. CD tracks: stained silver / bigger riff / lost in the air / lift off / brain candle)
