CBGB's and the Birth of US Punk - comp. CD

  • ocho. / 18 tracks / 2002
  • This album tries to track the development that ultimately led to early US punk; it starts with the underground, garage and greaser bands of the mid/late 60s, moves on to the glam rock and proto punk groups of the early 70s and finishes with the early punk and new wave bands of the CBGB's scene. Of course there are no surprises here, and since there is no clearly defined target audience this might be a hard sell, but it's kind of interesting to follow the musical developments from the late 60s to the late 70s, so it's OK for what it is (the Dead Kennedys really don't fit in with the mostly NYC/Detroit/Ohio-based bands, though). [7]
  • Tracks: The Velvet Underground And Nico - i'm waiting for the man / The Sonics - louie louie / The Seeds - excuse, excuse / The 13th Floor Elevators - slip inside this house / New York Dolls - trash / Iggy And The Stooges - tight pants / Electric Eels - agitated / Suicide - speed queen / Pere Ubu - heart of darkness / Richard Hell And The Voidoids - blank generation / Television - friction (live) / Wayne County And The Electric Chairs - i had too much to dream last night / Blondie - rip her to shreds / Dead Kennedys - california uber alles / Dead Boys - sonic reducer (original mix) / Ramones - judy is a punk (1975 demo) / Johnny Thunders And The Heartbreakers - born to lose / Jonathan Richman And The Modern Lovers - roadrunner
