Three flavors of the US first press: #1 - test pressing with plain white labels. #2 - Profile edition with inner sleeve censored/softened by the label; the band insisted on a “Censored” stamp to express their outrage; but apparently not all copies have this stamp. #3 - Promo version with special black & white promo labels and regular (censored) inner sleeve. 1994 CD has first two LPs.

NYHC classic, but also the origin of the “commercial” NY hardcore. Fast & aggressive street hardcore with a clear metal edge - no guitar wanking, though, it just serves to make their music more aggressive. The Cro-Mags see the world from a street/slum perspective, so there is no room for peace punk messages - dog eat dog, and only the toughest survive. [8]

Klassiker des NY-Hardcores, und sicher ein Maßstab, an dem sich viele nachfolgende Bands orientierten. Schneller, aggressiver Street-Core mit einer definitiven Metal-Kante, was aber nicht zu Solo-Orgien führt, sondern nur dazu beiträgt, die Musik noch kraftvoller zu machen. Klare Absage auch an die übliche Peace-Punk-Message, die Cro-Mags sehen die Welt aus der Slum-Perspektive: Dog eat Dog, und nur der Stärkste überlebt. Über Messages wie diese läßt sich sicher streiten; auf jeden Fall aber ist die Platte musikalisch ein Meilenstein.
