Compared to the interesting “Luciferi” CD this is a step back for Danzig; the more experimental songwriting is sacrificed for one that is reminiscent of the first three albums, and the crisp and kicking production is replaced by a trashier, muddier one. Song quality is more even than on the previous album with its highs and lows, the music is gloomy and powerful, but we’ve heard this before, and better. “1000 Devils Reign” is probably the best track on this. Die achte CD, und für mich ein Schritt zurück. Wo Luciferi interessant und experimentell war, geht Circle of Snakes wieder zurück zu den Wurzeln der ersten drei Danzig-Alben, und die Produktion ist nicht mehr so klar und direkt. Es gibt keine größeren Ausfälle, aber eben auch keine Höhepunkte, von dem ganz netten „1000 Devils Reign“ mal abgesehen. Haben wir alles schon mal gehört, und besser.
