Early shock punk rock with some glam rock/r’n’r influences by these Ohio-to-NY transplants. Great rough and aggressive music with lots of energy, and I’d say Sonic Reducer still ranks as one of the top 10 punk songs of all time. The “Younger Louder Snottier” version contains the original mixes that are a lot rougher than the ones used on the Sire LP. This not a simple case of “the majors messed it up with their slick production, so finally here's the real thing”, though; although some of the songs (especially the ones with more rock influences) have a lot more punch with the rougher sound, some others suffer from the noisy and trebly production. And whether you prefer Sonic Reducer one way or the other is a matter of taste. What it comes down to is that, as a true fan, you need both versions. [9]

Früher Schockpunk aus New York; wie damals üblich, ist auch noch ein Schuß Glam Rock / R’n’R vorhanden, was aber im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen Bands kaum stört. Mit Sonic Reducer hat die Band wohl einen der besten Punksongs aller Zeiten geschrieben, und auch der Rest der LP ist wirklich sehr gut. Dreckiger, krachiger und energiegeladener Punk Rock. Die Younger, Louder, Snottier LP enthält die Rohmixe des Albums, was hier ganz wörtlich zu nehmen ist, klingt alles viel krachiger und deftiger. Davon profitieren einige Songs, andere gehen fast im Lärm unter. Der echte Fan braucht ohnehin beide Versionen.
