Wipers tribute box set, with Napalm Beach (pals of the Wipers, so they hit their depressive guitar sound pretty well), M99 (mediocre rock version with a female singer, still better than their own releases), Nirvana (great version, straight and powerful), Poison Idea (the usual fat PI sound, good), Dharma Buns (a somewhat whiny neo country version), Crackerbash (beautiful melodic punk, a blend of Wipers and Ramones), Hole (no one should be covering this classic, especially not Hole… well it’s not THAT bad after all) and Whirlees (horrible grunge/scum rock version). Crackerbash, Nirvana and Poison Idea win (in this order), and for god’s sake get rid of the 4th 7”. [7]
