Guitarists of some of the most important indie/noise bands of the early 90s (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur, Big Black, Butthole Surfers etc) show what they can do with their instrument; ranging from nice acoustic ballads to avantgarde stuff and noisy monstrosities (all instrumental). Interesting, but often a bit lengthy; hard to hear this one every day I guess. The track by Steve Albini is incredible, though, these guitar sounds are just amazing. [7]

Angeblich ist dieses Projekt entstanden, weil einer von Depeche Mode beim gemeinsamen Essen mit dem Labelmacher gemeint hat, die Gitarre sei tot. Der ärgerte sich und rief alles, was Rang und Namen hat in der Krach-Szene, zusammen, um das Gegenteil zu beweisen. Das Ergebnis ist dieser Sampler mit 26 Gitarren-Instrumentals, die von netten kleinen Akustik-Balladen bis zu monströsen Noise-Hämmern reichen. Vieles ist gut, vieles aber auch langatmig oder anstrengend; wirkliche Hits, die man sich immer wieder anhören möchte, sind dünn gesät. Gewinner ist Steve Albini, der hier ein wirkliches Meisterstück abliefert, unglaublich, was dieser Mann mit einer Gitarre zustande bringt.
