I can't see a reason why Sub Pop would (co-)release a grind and screamo record except for checking out the commercial potential of this music for their major label investors. Anyway, this is an overview of the northwest scene ranging from metallic Hydrahead-style hardcore and ultrafast grind to complex screamo. I like Hollywood Mike Miranda, Teen Cthulhu and Akimbo best, but the others are OK, too. This might be an interesting introduction but in the end I'd recommend rather buying the bands' individual releases. [7]

Auch Sub Pop und damit die Majors sind inzwischen auf den Trichter gekommen, dass sich in der Hardcoreszene interessante Dinge tun. Diese LP kann vielleicht als Testballon gesehen werden, um mal auszuchecken, welche Resonanz diese Musik im Mainstream hat. Weshalb sonst sollte denn Sub Pop auf einmal Screamo-Musik veröffentlichen? Abgesehen davon ist dies eine bunte Mischung aus aktuellen Strömungen, von metallischem Hardcore à la Hydrahead und heftigerem Grindkram bis hin zu Screamo. Am besten gefallen mir Hollywood Mike Miranda, Teen Cthulhu und Akimbo, der Rest ist auch ganz OK, aber man kauft sich letztendlich doch lieber Releases der einzelnen Bands.
