Ex-Stains (from Texas). Versions #3 and on are remixed by East Bay Ray and Klaus Flouride (of the Dead Kennedys). Pressings: #1 - First pressing (500 made) has white border around front sleeve, black band name on orange background, plain white labels. #1 and #2 have a different mix than the later ones, and B side tracks are in different order (“Kill the Light” after “I hate work” instead of after “Church & State”). #2 - Second pressing on R Radical (cat.# mdc-1) with white border around the sleeve, band name in black on red background. Matrix # is “MDC-1-A Re-1”. #3 - Next/final US press has black border around sleeve, new (better) mix, matrix # “MDC-1-A-3”, B side is cut louder than the UK version. Same track order as the UK release, front sleeve is a little different (different logo, label name & year on front), + 12”x12” lyric sheet. #4 - UK press with black border around cover, thinner cover than the US versions (white inside) and matrix # “MDC-1-A Re3”. + printed inner sleeve instead of the original lyric sheet. #5 - Brazilian license pressing; music is like on the UK or 3rd US version. Cover is similar to the UK press but the black outline around the MDC logo is missing. Also the left part of the back cover MDC logo/illustration has a blue background. + lyric sheet (different layout to the original US insert, and smaller format)
Classic debut LP by the Texas/California band. 14 political songs against fascism, rednecks, the klan and police brutality. Tight and fast hardcore with a powerful sound and more complex rhythms than other bands of that time; the singer's voice is not as monotonous as on the subsequent records. Great. [8]
Klassiker.
