United again… slow & brutal as ever. The original album title resulted in trouble with the Lysol company, so it was changed and the name removed from the sleeve. (KS) The Melvins started to break up their trademark sound on this LP; actually it's just one long song, but it's broken down into different “chapters”. Three of these tracks have the usual slow/dragging/grinding structure of the previous LPs, but the other three are different. The first is basically an 11-minute intro, a few guitar chords, no vocals, and the drums just start halfway through the song. “The Ballad” is just that, a ballad (Melvins-style, of course), and Second Coming is a marching drum beat with a simple guitar line. Die Melvins klingen genial, selbst dann, wenn sie nur die Saiten anschlagen & zum Essen gehen und man 10 Minuten Rückkopplung zu hören bekommt. Gab etwas Probleme mit dem Titel, weil die Herstellerfirma Lysol auf ihren Namen rechtlichen Schutz hat und den Titel per Gericht untersagt hat. Unverständliche Aktion, denn die Melvins sind sicher mindestens so gründlich wie ihre Spülmittel. (KS)
