  • NOTE: Misfits collecting has evolved into a science. There are tons of different versions, mispressings, freak editions etc., and it doesn't help that there never have been official numbers for the pressings. A lot of what has been reported over the years has been wrong, and even first-hand sources seem to disagree on some figures. I'm only able to scratch the surface here, for (much) more information please refer to the fan sites on the Web. Mark Kennedy and Kevin Finn seem to be the most serious and knowledgeable Misfits enthusiasts out there, so check out www.misfitscentral.com and kevfinn.com/misfits.
  • On the front sleeve (l to r): Glenn, Manny, Jerry. [MB] 500 made of the original, closed cover. First US boot (200 made) is very close to the original, except for the following differences: (a) Vinyl is thinner so light shines through it a little bit (original is completely solid) (b) sleeve is glossy instead of semi glossy © Matrix #s have additional writing which has been scratched out. (d) Original copies have vinyl with flat edges, boot has pointy edges. Second (US) repro just has a printed cardboard sheet as cover, band is called ’The Ghouls’ on the labels, 500 made. German repro on clear vinyl, 500 made, real (closed) cover, band is called ’The Unfits’ on the labels. This one later turned up on black and grey marble vinyl, too. Misfits Bible also lists a 1994 boot, also with the 17309 matrix no., with either blank labels or the “Ghouls” labels. Some newer bootlegs as seen on Ebay: One with blue cover paper, one with red cover paper with blank blue labels.
  • The Misfits' debut 7” is quite different to their other records, there's no guitars yet but an organ instead which adds a certain Doors touch. Still this already shows the gloomy, melodic qualities of their later songs, and Glenn's trademark voice sounds as great as on any of their other releases. This is an interesting release, but no punk, so don’t be disappointed if you only know their later stuff and sold your home for this. [7]
