new underground records. nu-33 / 12 tracks / 1983
Formed in 1979 near Hermosa Beach, CA, by 14-year old Hatha. They recorded an LP around ’79/80, which was never released due to a mix up with the studio owner who presumably still has those tapes. In 1981 Hatha hooked up with Anti members, Danny (bass, guitars) and Gary (guitars, bass). In 1982 Thaddeus would take over on drums and the band would record tracks for the “Life is…” compilations and this LP, released on Gary and Danny’s New Underground label. The band finally broke up in 1983 (information provided by Brian of Grand Theft Audio - thanks!). + 3 lyric sheets.
Experimental LA punk with a female singer. Some tracks are simple punk, others have a weird/experimental edge, some also have a little goth influence. More original than the usual ’82 hardcore, but some tracks are just irritating and amateurish. (BJ). [6] Kind of hard to pin down, having both strong, early-west coast punk moments, like the opening track, and experimental parts. “Not what you think” is an awesome instrumental track. Overall, a hybrid of decadent sub-psychedelic art punk, reminiscent of Morbid Opera and the female-fronted bands featured on compilations such as the “Sudden Death” LP. (BI) [8]
