Old material, different versions. The Neon Boys tracks date back to 1973; this is basically 70s rock, quite tame and not too interesting. The Voidoids tracks have Richard’s strange voice and Tom Verlaine’s high pitched guitar; I would call these rock rather than punk, too, but rock in the early Rolling Stones / 60s punk vein, so it’s still quite rough, powerful and complex. Interessante Platte mit altem Material des Meisters, als er noch zahmer klang. Die Neon-Boys-Tracks sind von 1973(!): etwas schräger Rock, z.T. mit Girl vocals im Hintergrund; hat eigentlich nur historischen Wert. Anders dagegen die Voidoids-Stücke: Hells charakteristische, quengelige, überdrehte Stimme, dazu Tom Ver­laines stechende, hohe Gitarre… super! (RF)
