Great first LP by this post-Rapeman/Big Black project. Albini at his best, legendary guitar sound & a voice that cuts through metal. Still I liked the first two 7”s better, a full album shows some problems to keep up the tension and energy (like Albinis former band managed on Songs about Fucking, for instance). After a few songs, the mind begins to wander off which isn’t a compliment for music like Shellac’s. A big album, nonetheless. [8]  

Nach zwei Singles hier die erste LP von Albinis Post-Rapeman-Projekt. Im Grunde genommen hat sich nicht viel geändert, die gleiche klingelnde Krach-Gitarre, der gleiche schneidende Gesang; aber es wird doch deutlich, dass Shellac doch eher eine Single-Band sind. Es gelingt nicht, die Spannung über zwei lange LP-Seiten zu halten; nach dem 6. oder 7. Song geht den Jungs ein bisschen die Luft aus. Insgesamt trotzdem eine grandiose LP, schon alleine wegen des wundervollen Covers.
