+ insert sheet. Int Disc says that most of the 7” packs were defective so the whole thing was repressed in Oct 1981 on LP on Hoboken Records (hobo 101) with one track renamed. Mark Bingham (git, vox) also worked together with Glenn Branca; Wharton Tiers (the producer) joined the band after these recordings were finished.

Synth pop from NYC on Gulcher. Mostly “artificial” music with synth, drum machine and guitar, but no artsy crap with saxophones. Quite relaxed and melodic most of the time. About 50% of the tracks are actually quite good, original & sophisticated, but be warned that the punk factor is low. [7]  

Das Gulcher-Label, bekannt vor allem wegen der Gizmos- und Panics-Singles, hat ja nicht nur reinen Punk veröffentlicht, sondern auch etwas schrägere oder wavigere Klänge. Die Social Climbers aus New York gehören eindeutig in letztere Kategorie; Synthipop mit Gitarre und Rhythmusmaschine. Glücklicherweise kein anstrengendes Kunst-Gehampel mit Quieke-Saxophon, sondern relativ entspannte und gut ausgearbeitete Musik, die interessant und melodisch ist. Mal wieder nix für 100%-Punks, ansonsten ist hier mindestens die Hälfte der Tracks durchaus brauchbar.
