After Hüsker Dü’s and the Replacements’ success (well… moderate success, by Nirvana standards) a zillion bands sprung up in 1985/86 that had the same rough melodic rock sound. Soul Asylum were one of the earlier bands in that development and had some extra credibility since they were actually from Minnesota. Good melodic stuff with some more rock influence than Hüskers/Replacements; but much more powerful and noisy than the mainstream records they released later. [7]
Eine der Bands auf dem Hüsker/Replacements-Zug, die den melodisch/krachigen Sound, ahem, übernahmen. Soul Asylum waren aber immerhin aus Minnesota und auch eine der ersten Bands dieser Ecke. Hier ist ihr Sound noch deutlich härter und punkiger als ihre späteren Mainstream-Hits, aber schon etwas rockiger als die Vorbilder. Gute Platte.
