Sub Pop's second compilation sounds a lot more like what you'd expect from this Seattle label than the first one; most bands play 100% Seattle grunge rock (even the Fastbacks song is very rocking). In 1988 this genre was still wild & exciting, and many songs have an energy that is absent from later releases. Fine production, good music. [7]  

Im Gegensatz zum ersten Sub-Pop-(100)-Sampler sind die Bands hier schon fast alle auf die typische SP-Linie eingeschworen; damals konnte man seine Musik auch noch ruhigen Gewissens als Grunge bezeichnen, ohne ein träges Gähnen hervorzurufen. Sehr rockiger Stoff, trotzdem wild und abgedreht. Ob­wohl das meiste recht gut ist, gibt es eigentlich keine absoluten Highlights, ist eben ein guter & überdurchschnittlicher Sampler. Der Fastbacks-Song ist üb­rigens der grungigste, den sie je aufgenommen haben, man erkennt die Band kaum wieder…
