rip off records. 001 / 2 tracks / 1993 (?)

One-sided record.

Label name says it all - hyper-simplistic styling, the covers are only printed on one side (black & white, of course), the sound is pretty, er, basic, too. Still, this label found a cult following because it just all fits together and sounds much more authentic than the high-gloss punk rock zombies the music industry tries to shove down consumers' throats. Their first release has all a Rip Off record needs - blank B side, blank back cover, noisy garage sound. This is even simpler than the follow-ups so I guess this is more for the collectors, but still this is an OK release. [7]

Hier ist der Labelname Programm, die Singles aus dem Hause Rip Off sind nämlich allesamt lausig aufgemacht - meist nur einseitig bespielt, im Wohnzimmer aufgenommen, auch Cover und Labels sind von einer beispiellosen Lieblosigkeit. Dass Rip Off trotzdem zum Kultlabel wurde, liegt daran, dass eben alles zusammenpasst - schrottig ja, aber eben mit Stil. Nummer 1 hat alles, was die späteren Releases auch haben, ist aber noch etwas einfacher und scheppriger; naja, zum Kult reicht es nicht, aber für Sammler ne nette Sache.
