The first Victims Family album is definitely no easy listening record. There are many short, hectic tracks with lots of tempo changes and breaks; similar in attitude to Nomeansno, but even more complex and less catchy. There is a method to this madness, though, and after a few spins you discover more and more structure, as well as the hidden melodies. An excellent record, but pretty challenging and demanding. Beim ersten Hören eine sehr anstrengende Platte; viele kurze Songs, hektisch und abgehackt, viele Tempowechsel und eine ziemlich freie Harmonik; dazu noch der leicht nervige Sänger, der mal grölt, mal quiekt… Dieses Chaos folgt aber seinen eigenen Gesetzen, und nach ein paar Durchgängen entdeckt man immer mehr davon; Victims Family bleiben auch immer auf der “melodischen” Seite und gleiten nicht ins völlig atonale Geschrubbel ab. Nicht sehr eingängig, aber sehr intelligent und originell - superb.
