Their last truly great and innovative album. Some of the songs have a strong rock & country influence, but they still have that weird and magic X feeling, and quite a few songs could still be filed under punk. Their songwriting abilities have reached a peak, the vocal arrangements are smoother and smarter than before, and even though there is a bit too much rock influence for my taste, there is still a lot of energy and tension. Good record. [8]  

Hier läuft die alte Kultband noch einmal zu Bestform auf. Ein gewisser Teil der Musik wird schon deutlich von Country/Rock-Elementen beeinflußt, aber den Großteil der Tracks kann man durchaus noch als Punkrock durchgehen lassen. Geblieben sind die verwirrten Texte, der geniale (inzwischen auch relativ harmonische) Duogesang von John und Exene und natürlich die hervorragende Musik, die hier schon sehr viel mehr verfeinert und weiterentwickelt ist als auf früheren Platten. Teilweise ein bißchen zu rockig, aber ansonsten sehr gut und mit ein paar unglaublichen Hits.
